The Church and World Missions The great commission recorded in the book of Mark 16:15-18; will draw our attention to the threefold duty for missions.
Mark 16:15-18; and he said unto them, go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptizes shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils;
they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
- The Scope of World Missions- “Go ye into all the world” Evangelism must be an all out missionary thrust. The church is commissioned to all people of the world. No geographical area, culture or people are to be without the gospel or good news of Jesus Christ.
- The Method World Missions- “Preach the gospel to every creature.” Missions will be effective where the good news is proclaimed and lives are transformed. Meaningful communication of the gospel will lead people into the experience of God’s grace made available through the death and resurrection of Christ.
- The Ministry of World Missions- It is imperative that the church minister to the physical and spiritual needs of those who are hurting and wounded. The Holy Spirit will continue to guide and empower the church to spread the gospel. Witnessing for Christ by word and deed is every Christian duty and calling. The lost will recognize our genuine concern for their eternal destiny when actions to win them are evident.
